It’s tough growing up and it’s so hard to know what to tell kids without sounding like you are lecturing them. I’m like everyone else in the world in that, I feel if I knew then what I know now … yah, I could make a list of a thousand items.

Do you remember that song/essay, “Everyone’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)” that was a huge hit in 1998? It said everything so eloquently and it holds true as much today as it did then and will continue to be relevant as my kids grow up. We spend so much time and energy trying to be someone else because we think that is what others expect or want but in the end, we just need to be ourselves.

It’s the two words from a rubber stamp that I have that sum up all that I want to tell my nieces and my kids about growing up and it’s so simple, “be you”, not what you see on TV or others think you should be, just be you.
